REFUGEE MINISTRY UPDATE
EEM recently received an exciting update from ministry partner Matt Gulley, who wrote, “Great news! I received a text from an Afghan brother that said, ‘This is a happy day! God is working. Brother Masoud baptized his mother in Lesbos. Praise the Lord!’
“Just over four years ago in a camp gathering, I was sharing Gospel truth with a group of Muslim men, when Masoud threatened my life because of the Gospel. He would come to believe six months later. Masoud has grown to become an amazing disciple along with his wife. They live out an incredible Gospel witness among Afghan and Iranian refugees. They are faithful teachers of the Word, and they pray as if the Psalms have been downloaded into their brains.
“Today, as I sat on an island in what I thought would be a simple Bible study, I watched brother Masoud walk in with his mom and dad. He had shared three days with them and was passing the conversation to a brother here on the island to continue investing the truth in his mother.
Toward the end of our time, his mother leaned over and said, ‘I believe.’ She would later communicate a clear Gospel understanding.
“After studying with his mother, Masoud looked at his father and said, ‘Do I have your permission to baptize her as the Scripture commands?’ His dad, a former Afghan commander, looked at him, smiled, and
said, ‘She is free to make a choice herself.’ “Masoud looked at his mother and asked her if she wanted to be obedient to the teaching of God’s Word.
He started to teach her about the commands of Christ, and then he asked what kept her from being baptized today. Shortly after, she gave her life to Christ in baptism! “Join us in praising the Lord for the fascinating ways in which He works. Continue to pray for Masoud’s father and that his frustration with religion will change as he sees the love displayed in the transformed hearts of the Christians around him. It is incredible to see the Word of God work in people’s lives and new people being added to God’s Kingdom. I am confident that this
is one of the best days of Masoud’s and his mother’s lives. Let’s share in their joy by praising and thanking our Good Father!” We are thankful for our faithful partner, Matt, and his family as they continue to work and serve the Lord in Greece!
PRAY WITHOUT CEASING
“The power of prayer has overcome enemies, conquered death, brought healing, and defeated demons.(1)” (1) Psalm 6:9-10; 2 Kings 4:3-36; James 5:14-15.
The power of prayer is not the result of the person praying. Instead, the
power resides in God. Prayer is essential to this ministry as we ask the Lord to guide our every move. While gifts have increased, the requests for God’s Word continues to outpace our funding. We humbly ask that you join with us in prayer for the people of Eastern Europe and beyond, so that more of the lost will be found. Not only do we pray for this work overseas, we also cry out to God to dramatically reshape the lives of our EEM team and Donor Family as we continue to encounter Christ and the power of His Holy Spirit.
Our desire is for all, in the east and west, to receive and take to heart this message of hope and transformation we are blessed to spread to the world!
PRAYER REQUESTS FROM EUROPE
We are having difficulty obtaining Estonian Bibles. Please pray that God will provide another translation or help us build bridges with the license holders to the most popular translation so that they may grant us permission to print the Bible in Estonian.
Bibles in Kazakhstan is now legal but the delivery and distribution logistics are very challenging due to the government regulations of evangelistic activities of Christian communities. Pray for the courageous servants of Christ in Kazakhstan who are helping us distribute the Bibles there!
Distribution in Belarus – Due to government restrictions, transportation of large quantities of Bibles in Minsk is difficult. Pray for a solution to this issue.
Budget planning for 2019 –
As we begin to plan the next year, please pray for God’s Spirit to lead us and for us to listen to His guidance.
SERBIAN ARMY RECEIVES BIBLES
Twenty years ago, Serbia and the United States were fighting in a war. Now, brick by brick, we see evidence of God continuing to build bridges of peace in this relationship. Through your loyal support, EEM was able to provide funds to purchase 1,000 Serbian Bibles for the Serbian Army this year. EEM partner Drasko Djenovic had an opportunity to present these Bibles at a meeting that included both US and Serbian Army Chaplains. Your support of this ministry is allowing God’s Word to be another brick in this process of building bridges of peace.
Avramov attended the EEM event and expressed his thankfulness for the Bibles and for the Children and Pre Teen Bibles that were given last Christmas to children of parents who work for the Serbian Army. Drasko wrote, “When I served in the Army, it was strictly forbidden to possess or read the Bible or visit any religious worship place during military service. Today, 25 years later, Army Chaplains are allowed to give Bibles to those who serve Serbia.”
For more than a century the people of Serbia only had access to a Bible in an archaic translation until this year!
In early 2018, EEM partnered with Biblica to publish the first complete contemporary Bible translation taken from original biblical languages since 1868. You partnered with us to publish 5,000 Serbian Bibles at the beginning of this year, and more requests continue to pour in. The demand for this new Bible is growing.
Please pray with us for the possibility to publish an additional 10,000 copies in 2019.
VOLUNTEERS AT WORK
Geoff Casella With By Example Youth Missions
While we primarily print and distribute Bibles freely through a vast network of partner churches and organization, we want to highlight individuals and organizations who are working to be the hands and feet of Jesus on the front lines of Bible distribution through our partners overseas. This month we want to highlight Geoff Casella serving through By Example Youth Missions (BEYM). BEYM is the latest incarnation of a mission that started over a decade ago—a remarkable result of God’s hand moving in Ukraine. In 2006, The National Association of Ukrainian Youth Camp Workers invited EEM to bring and teach the Bible to the children attending their camps. EEM happily obliged with a youth camp program, eager to answer God’s call to spread the Gospel and plant the seeds of salvation in nations hungry for the truth.
In 2017, EEM passed the baton to the camp team leaders, who formed By Example Youth Missions (BEYM), a nonprofit organization dedicated to continuing the mission of teaching God’s Word and principles in the daily lives of children in a fun camp environment.
This is another testament to God’s faithfulness & another opportunity to show His transformative love to youth who are in need of hope and spiritual awakening. Each year the youth camp teams distribute Bibles to every person in various camps. Bibles are going into homes that may not have ever held a Bible. These families are receiving the message God intended for everyone, everywhere. Geoff wrote EEM Regional Director Darryl Willis and reported that after the Bibles were given out at the camps this year, BEYM was able to use the extra Bibles to give away in the marketplace in Mykulychyn, Ukraine. Geoff shared, “I am encouraged each year I go to Ukraine. I cannot express the difference between how they look at us now at [Camp] Smerichka vs. how they looked at us in 2005. We’ve got folks on our team who have no inhibitions about [sharing] a Biblical message and it is totally accepted. It was not always so. But God’s word affects people, and that’s what EEM does. I’m happy about our partnership. If EEM withheld Bibles from our camp, I would quit. It’s all about getting the word of God to the people.” We are thankful for this continued partnership in the Gospel with BEYM and the work of volunteers like Geoff. MILLION DOLLAR SUNDAY 2018 UPDATE
God has given us the opportunity to get the Bible to as many people as possible in Eastern Europe and beyond. Thanks to you, hundreds of thousands of women, men and children have already received Bibles in 2018. Even though you partnered with us to help distribute God’s Word to a record-setting 1,184,902 people last year, millions still do not have access to the Bible in their language. Now through December 31, we are promoting our 2018 Million Dollar Sunday (MDS) annual campaign. Our goal is to raise $2.4 million to fill requests for over a million Bibles and Bible-based materials for more individuals through public schools, refugee communities, churches, orphanages, prisons and more.
It is evident that God is doing whatever it takes to get the Bible into the hands of his people. We’ve had Bibles ready for Kazakhstan but couldn’t legally distribute them until God changed that in a significant way this year.
In Serbia, we’ve had the freedom to distribute Bibles for years, but there’s been no readable Bible in the Serbian language to distribute until this year. Praise God a modern Serbian translation is now available. For different reasons, Serbia and Kazakhstan haven’t been receiving Bibles, but God changed all that this year.
He is kicking down walls in all directions to get his Good News to all people!
Which walls will he kick down next?!
We simply can’t reach our goal of $2.4 million without you. Your support will make an eternal impact in the lives of those who are given a Bible. God is doing whatever it takes to get the Bible to people where it’s not previously been legal or hasn’t been translated.
Will you make a gift of $50, $100 or more to help us meet our goal?
