How did you do? If you are like most people, you might have been able to figure it out because you’ve already read and heard this text before in various English translations. But what if this were the first time you’ve read the story? Would you want to keep reading it? Would you give up in frustration?
The version you were reading is the Douay Rheims version that was translated in 1582. Could you imagine that this was the only version of the Bible available to you for the last four hundred years? It would be difficult to imagine.
But this was precisely the case in Slovenia. In 1583 Jurij Dalmatin, a Protestant reformer translated the Bible into the Slovenian language. It has been the standard Bible for the country of Slovenia until this year!
Thanks to partners like you, this Christmas the story of Jesus’ birth will be read in thousands of homes in a contemporary version of the Bible!
This new version is just one of the projects you have helped fund through your generosity! This year our European staff have completed over 100 projects due to your help.
And the requests keep coming in. This year we will distribute over 1 million volumes of materials (mostly Bibles) throughout Eastern Europe. This will potentially represent a 50%-60% increase in distribution by the end of 2017. At EEM we are committed to getting Bibles into the hands of people who want them. We cannot turn them down! But we need your help to do that.
We want to ask for your continued help this year. Please consider making one more year-end gift to help us meet this wonderful opportunity to provide more and more Bibles to those who desperately want them!
You can either make your gift online at www.milliondollarsunday.org/donate/ or you can mail a check to: Eastern European Mission | P. O. Box 670928 | Dallas, TX 75367.
Thank you for giving a contemporary Bible to the people of Slovenia this year! Thank you for providing Bibles to refugees in Greece, schools in Ukraine, and thousands more to Bulgaria, Romania, and Croatia! Thank you for placing us in your hearts; please keep us in your prayers.
