Bibles in Public Schools
“The Impossible Dream”– giving the Bible to people in their own language – is what EEM founding team member and missionary Gwen Hensley told his wife his mission would be after witnessing the emptiness and despair of the people of Eastern Europe his first years in the mission field during the cold war. But Hensley knew then, as EEM knows now, that with God all things are possible. More than seven years have passed since EEM received its first request from educators in Ukraine to place, in public schools, Bibles and EEM’s literature for teaching biblical morals and principles. This decision to bring God back into education and the lives of children is proving to be one of the most revolutionary actions for this generation and generations to come.
Even in a country ravaged by war, the effects and influence of God’s truth have been great. As EEM staff, churches, ministry partners like you, and people on the ground have faithfully worked to bring the Bible to public schools, more countries have witnessed the transformational power of God’s word. School leaders and administrators in Romania and Croatia are also requesting Bibles and biblical materials from EEM. Since this project began, EEM has placed Bibles and biblical materials in front of over 4 million students, and by the end of this project in 2016, over 50% of public schools in Ukraine will have Bibles. God is certainly at work, and with your help with the Million Dollar Sunday project, we will turn the impossible dream into a reality in Eastern Europe.
Bibles for Refugees
When EEM received its first ever request for a few thousand Bibles in Arabic and Farsi in November 2015, we never imagined the scope of what God was planning behind the scenes. Although Eastern European countries and their respective languages have been EEM’s primary focus since 1961, that was no stumbling block for God’s sovereign plan to use EEM and other ministry partners to bring His salvation to a people group that has never known the true love of God.
While it seemed that the power of evil had overtaken Syria and other countries through the violence of extremist Islam, God was able to bring restoration to many residents of these territories. As millions fled for their lives and the lives of their families, like the exodus, God led these people, his children, through the territories that EEM has been faithfully serving for over 50 years. As people flooded in, EEM began receiving more and more requests for Bibles in Arabic and Farsi from local churches and ministry partners – and not just a few thousand more – but by January 2016 the requests were over 100,000.
Through faith EEM has said “Yes” to the requests, and because of partners like you, EEM has been able to fulfill many of these requests. Million Dollar Sunday 2016 seeks to complete the funding process for the Arabic and Farsi Bibles while this amazing window of opportunity to share God’s Word to this people group is still open and growing.
